The Laboratory of Aquatic Mammals (LAMAQ) is located in the Department of Ecology and Zoology of the Federal University of Santa Catarina.
We are a family owned and operated business.
It has space for research and necropsy, in addition to the largest scientific collection of marine mammals in South America (more than 600 specimens). At LAMAQ, undergraduate, masters and doctoral students develop research involving population dynamics and ecology, trophic ecology, comparative morphology, biomechanics and bone changes, systematics and taxonomy, fishing ecology and ethnobiology, zooarcheology and bioacoustics. In addition, extension activities are carried out, receiving students and participating in exhibitions, courses and lectures.

How to incorporate local knowledge into the understanding of an organism or an ecosystem?
How does the aquatic ecosystem relate to the human system and how does it impact the sustainability of this fishery?
How does a fishery ecosystem relate to its management policy?
What can the carcass of an aquatic mammal tell us about its habits and relationships in that ecosystem?
How does the morphology and bone structure of an aquatic mammal relate to its ecology?
How can a scientific collection of aquatic mammals help to understand the evolution and conservation of these organisms?
